Pacific Northwest Colleges Get F Grades for Neglecting to Protect Jewish Students
- December 9, 2025
A new report from the civil rights group StopAntisemitism reveals that the crisis of anti-Jewish hatred on American college campuses has severely impacted the Pacific Northwest, with the University of Washington , the University of Oregon, and Portland State University all receiving failing (F) grades.
These PNW institutions were included in the group’s list of 14 colleges nationwide that flunked the 2025 “report cards.” StopAntisemitism assessed 90 colleges, using student surveys and incident reports to gauge the institutions’ handling of rising antisemitism following the October 7, 2023, Hamas attack on Israel.
Failing grades in Washington and Oregon
The failing grades issued to the University of Washington, the University of Oregon, and Portland State University characterize these campuses as amongst the absolute worst places for antisemitism in American higher education.
The report confirms that these schools have allowed a hostile climate to persist for Jewish students.
“This report exposes a disturbing and undeniable reality. Antisemitism on American college campuses is systemic and tolerated, and in many cases enabled by the very institutions tasked with protecting our American kids,” said Liora Rez, founder of StopAntisemitism, according to the New York Post.
Key findings from the national crisis
While focusing on the regional failures, the report’s national findings provide the context for the climate of fear felt at UW, U of Oregon, and Portland State.
The survey of students revealed that an overwhelming 62% of Jewish students said they have been directly blamed for Israel’s military action in Gaza. Furthermore, 58% of respondents reported personally experiencing antisemitism on campus, and 65% described feeling unwelcome in specific campus spaces because of widespread anti-Israel protests.
The lack of faith in administrators is clear; only 12% of students felt that the antisemitic incidents they reported were handled correctly by school officials. Ultimately, this environment has led to a shocking 39% of Jewish college students nationwide feeling the need to hide their identity on campus.
Call for action
StopAntisemitism urged all failing institutions, including the PNW universities, to follow the A-rated schools by speaking out unequivocally against hate and creating clear, transparent investigation policies against acts of hate.
The report highlighted that leadership is possible, noting that only 15 schools received an A grade nationally, and institutions like Cornell University and Vassar College saw their grades improve from failing marks in the previous year.
According to the New York Post, StopAntisemitism stressed that these schools “don’t wait for national headlines or external pressures to act, they set clear standards, enforce them consistently and fairly, and make it known that antisemitism is not tolerated on their campus.”
