Nazi Symbol Appears in Boys’ Prep School in Tennessee

A student is no longer enrolled at Montgomery Bell Academy following an incident of antisemitic vandalism at a home football game on Friday, Nov. 8.
Fellow students as well as school administrators became aware of a large swastika painted on a public path near the football stadium that evening. The event prompted an investigation that resulted in one student leaving the school.
MBA did not confirm whether the student was expelled or left of his own accord — merely that he is no longer enrolled. In a statement to the Scene, the school condemned the incident.
“Recently, an offensive antisemitic symbol was painted by a student on the path underneath the football stands during a game,” reads a statement from administrator Jessica Darden. “We are committed to educating our students on the serious implications of actions like these, and we remain resolute in upholding a school culture where all our students feel known, valued and respected.”
Founded in 1867, MBA is considered among the most prestigious and culturally conservative prep schools in the South. The school’s board of trustees includes billionaire businessman John Ingram, Tennessee Titans legend Eddie George and politician Beth Harwell, a previous speaker of the Tennessee House of Representatives. Annual tuition runs $37,250.
