About a dozen members of the neo-Nazi group ‘Goyim Defense League’ showed up in front of the West End Synagogue Tuesday afternoon, according to Synagogue leadership.

The Jewish advocacy group StopAntisemitism has been tracking the activities of the Goyim Defense League’ or ‘GDL’ for over five years and state they vilify Jews with their premeditated hate campaigns.

The Synagogue said the group demonstrated for about 15 minutes before moving towards downtown Nashville. In an email, the Synagogue said the group distributed hateful literature in neighborhoods where their congregants live.

The leadership said they called the police and alerted the Jewish Federation of Nashville and Middle Tennessee about the group. The Jewish Federation of Nashville said its security contacts told them, the group is likely to be in the Nashville area for several more days.

Jewish Temple Leadership in Nashville released this statement regarding the recent demonstrations:

“We are grateful to our Temple staff, security patrol, and the Belle Meade and Metro Nashville Police Departments for their immediate action and attention to this matter…Together we remain strong and hope for the day when hatred will give way to love.”

Hate groups have been demonstrating across Nashville over the last, nearly two weeks. The most recent demonstration happened during Tuesday evening’s Metro Nashville Council meeting where members attempted to speak but were kicked out of the meeting.

A group also demonstrated Monday afternoon in the Madison area, on an overpass bridge. More than a dozen members were seen with flags and signs on Due West Avenue.
