Javier Bardem

Javier Bardem, a veteran actor in Hollywood, uses his global platform, including an Instagram following of more than 1.5 million, to promote outspoken anti-Israel activism and antisemitic rhetoric. Bardem has signed open letters condemning Israel for acts of "genocide" as early as 2014 and has amplified countless campaigns targeting the Jewish state; yet Bardem's rhetoric goes beyond legitimate criticism of the Israeli government, frequently using tropes that single out Jews and language historically used to delegitimize the Jewish state's existence.

Javier Bardem demonizes the Jewish state, delegitimizes Jewish self-determination, and applies collective blame to Israelis and Jews. Examples include:

  • Sharing a video that denies Jewish indigeneity in Israel, claiming that Jews from Europe immigrated to Israel and caused the "displacement of the indigenous population." The video states, "Let's not even bring Hamas into the picture, it's the Zionist enterprise determined to take over all of Palestine displacing the local population."
  • Referring to the IDF as the "Israeli Occupation Forces" and accusing Israel of "proudly and celebratorily" perpetuating the "ongoing genocide."
  • Calling to: "BLOCK COMMERCIAL AND DIPLOMATIC RELATIONS WITH ISRAEL. SANCTION THE GENOCIDAL STATE."
  • Stating he will not work with any company that works with Israel while expressing support for protestors who blocked Spain's bicycle tour due to the participation of Israel's team, calling it "whitewashed."
  • Claiming European leaders should be tried as accomplices for their "inaction and complicity" stating, "it is illegal to remain associated with Israel given the ongoing violation of every possible human right by the Zionist state."
  • Posting a selfie wearing a "Free Marwan" jersey, referring to Marwan Barghouti who is a convicted terrorist for his involvement in deadly attacks against Israeli civilians.

Furthermore, Javier Bardem has repeatedly shared and amplified rhetoric that invokes antisemitic tropes, promotes conspiracy narratives about Jews and Israel, and minimizes concerns about antisemitism, including:

  • Claiming just last week that Israel is responsible for the Spain-Morocco border incident, posting: "We don't know who engineered this crisis, but we know who benefits from a weakened, destabilized Spain: Israel, and the Western far right eager to turn migration into a weapon against Muslims."
  • Reposting a video that asks, "ever notice Israel always has the same script?" that then presents common pro-Israel arguments and accusations of antisemitism as part of a coordinated "script," suggesting that allegations of antisemitism are merely a tactic to silence criticism.
  • Invoking Holocaust inversion by publicly stating "the IDF are NAZIS."
  • Captioning a photo, "ZIONIST MURDERERS," applying a sweeping, criminal blame to all those who support the Jewish right to self-determination.

Javier Bardem's repeated promotion of antisemitic tropes, conspiracy narratives, Holocaust inversion, and rhetoric that demonizes Israel reflects a troubling pattern of using his global platform to amplify narratives that fuel hostility toward Jews. By continuing to promote this rhetoric, Bardem contributes to the normalization of antisemitism and creates an environment where hatred and misinformation can flourish. He must be held accountable for the impact of his words and should not continue to profit from rhetoric that fuels hatred.

StopAntisemitism is calling on Javier Bardem's agents to take action and stop enabling harmful rhetoric. His representatives must end their relationship with him and refuse to continue providing a platform for antisemitism.
