Miami Gardens Police Searching for Suspect Who Blew Up Chabad Rabbi’s Mailbox

Miami Gardens Police are investigating after a rabbi’s mailbox was blown apart Tuesday, possibly by fireworks.

It was all caught on camera. A group is seen walking by the home before someone puts something in it. Moments later the mailbox blows up.

Rabbi Kleinman told Local 10 News that his children heard two loud booms.

“I get outside. I see the mailbox disappear and I thought, in the beginning, it got hit by a car, but when I get close, it’s all smashed in the middle of the street,” Kleinman said.

The incident happened shortly after 8 p.m. Tuesday along the 1,000 block of Northwest 204th Street in Miami Gardens.

On Wednesday, Local 10′s cameras captured what was left of the mailbox, as well as the mailbox parts that were still littering the ground.

Kleinman said his home is also listed as a synagogue and he serves as the rabbi for the area. He said children in the community come by his home every day, so he hopes this incident was just a holiday joke by kids and not a targeted attack..

“This is Chabad of Miami Gardens, so we always have to take precautions to make sure it’s not any hatred, that it is not targeted,” he said.

Miami Gardens police say they believe the people lighting the fireworks and putting it in a mailbox are juveniles.

They said the incident does not appear to be a hate crime.

Anyone with further information is asked to call the Miami Gardens Police Department or Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.
