Man Arrested for Spray Painting Swastikas, Police Not Treating it as a Hate Crime

A man accused of spray-painting swastikas across an Arkansas city has been arrested; Devin Mullen, 23, faces five counts of criminal mischief.

Booneville police said they’d been searching for weeks for someone who had painted swastikas and a Nazi “SS” symbol on the wall of a downtown salon. The initials “D+R” were also painted on the wall.

A swastika and the same initials were found in a park downtown and other locations in the city. Police said Mullen confessed to painting the hate symbols after he was arrested in connection with a shooting last week. His girlfriend was reportedly shot in Magazine during a fight between Mullen and Justin Jones, 33.

Mullen was being held in the Logan County jail. Booneville is a city of about 3,800 people southeast of Fort Smith.
