Toronto Police Investigating Swastika Graffiti in Local Park

Toronto police is investigating after photos emerged on social media showing antisemitic graffiti on chairs in Downsview Park.

On Friday, June 18, Const. Caroline de Kloet said an officer visited the park after MP Ya’ara Saks posted about the incident, and the force has begun an investigation.

“We became aware of offensive symbols spray-painted on chairs,” de Kloet wrote to toronto.com. “Our Hate Crime Unit has been made aware and is supporting the investigation.”

On Thursday afternoon, Saks posted what appeared to be a screengrab of another post showing two vandalized Muskoka chairs.

“I’m extremely disheartened and angry to see these symbols of hate and anti-Semitism in my own neighbourhood, right in the centre of our community,” Saks tweeted. “Hate has no place here, or anywhere else in Canada. I’ve reached out to Downsview Park management for more information. This must stop.”

An investigation is ongoing.
