Police investigating West End vandalism as possible hate crime

May 15, 2019

HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Authorities in Henrico County are investigating vandalism in a West End neighborhood as a possible hate crime.

Police say the vandalism happened in the area of N. Parham and Quioccasin roads, including Holly Hill Road, Bridle Lane and Farmington Drive.

Photos show swastikas spray-painted on road signs, as well as the number 88, which has been used by white supremacists because “H″ is the eighth letter in the alphabet and the number can be used as shorthand for “Heil Hitler.”

“The content of the vandalisms are concerning and our detectives are investigating the potential of this being a hate crime,” Henrico Police said in a press release.

Police told 8News less than a week later that a student at nearby Freeman High School was arrested and faces a felony vandalism charge.
