Texas Synagogue Receives Bomb Threat, Putting Nearby Schools under Lockdown

Three Grapevine-Colleyville ISD schools resumed normal activity Friday afternoon after they were placed in “secure” mode due to a bomb threat at a nearby synagogue, police say.

The schools impacted were Colleyville Elementary School, Colleyville Middle School, and Bridges/Vista/PDEC, Grapevine-Colleyville ISD said.

Colleyville police said they were notified of a bomb threat at about 10:53 a.m. Friday by the security team at the Congregation Beth Israel Synagogue in the 6100 block of Pleasant Run Road.

n January 2022, the synagogue was the scene where a gunman went in during services and took a rabbi and three congregants hostage, before an 11-hour standoff with police. All the hostages escaped unharmed and police killed the gunman.

The synagogue was evacuated out of precaution, police said. After K9 officers conducted an interior and exterior search of the property and did not find a threat, the nearby schools were released from “secure” mode.

“We appreciate the partnership and proactive response of our law enforcement to ensure our students and staff were safe while they conducted their investigation,” Grapevine-Colleyville ISD wrote on Facebook. “Thank you to our families and community for following our safety protocols during this time.”
